According to industry expert FlightGlobal, and their 2015 stats, North America operates 35% of the world’s helicopter civil fleet, which currently totals about 35,000 aircraft.

The Bell 206 is the most widely used turbine type, with a share of 15% representing over 36,000 units in operation, while the Robinson R44 accounts for 52% of the in-service piston helicopters.

A leading industry source reports that in the military market, the total of active turbines has reached over 21,000 units. The Sikorsky S-70/SH/UH-60 leads the ranking by family type with a share of 17% of the world’s fleet and more than 3,600 aircraft in service. In the last 10 years, deliveries of military helicopters have been on the rise, with 2014 being the highest.
